Session Goal

Close out the paper-kb / knowledge-base hardening workstream by validating the contract seams and deciding what remains before further investment.

Key Activities

  • Reviewed the current KB module closure state and confirmed the hardening block is cleanly finished.
  • Checked the main integration seams: contract boundaries, smoke-test -> chunk-set, analyze -> summary, and artifact linkage.
  • Assessed the architecture of paper-kb as a partially duplicated KB stack, with overlap in canonicalization, embedding runtime, cache, and orchestration.
  • Reframed ownership: paper-kb should behave as an application shell, while reusable KB responsibilities move toward a shared core.
  • Identified a low-risk compatibility path: keep paper-specific adapters and TEI parsing in paper-kb, but align outputs to canonical KB artifact contracts.
  • Narrowed the remaining operational issue to provider rate limits during real ingest.

Achievements

  • Validated that the KB hardening block is closed.
  • Confirmed the contract seams are working as intended.
  • Clarified the ownership split between paper-kb and the reusable KB core.
  • Established that the next bottleneck is not structural correctness, but provider-limited ingest throughput.
  • Recommended watch-mode closure for now, with reopening only if provider strategy or throughput work becomes necessary.
