Description
Session Goal
Assess the paper-corpus summary workflow after a successful idempotency/safety check, then narrow the remaining backend and validation issues blocking reliable summary runs.
Key Activities
- Verified that the summary layer behaves idempotently: the first run writes three items, and the second run skips them without making provider calls.
- Reviewed milestone status for summary artifact generation and confirmed the main backend gap is persistence of
run_record.[[json]]. - Distinguished a likely non-blocking Next.js hydration warning from the product-critical issues.
- Proposed a focused validation path for API and frontend behavior, including using a clean terminal for API checks instead of the Next dev-server/browser-console stream.
- Diagnosed duplicate corpus artifacts and recommended canonical
chunk_setselection so each source maps to one logical paper. - Outlined acceptance criteria and commands for validating API health, CSV export, summary input generation, and run observability.
- Recorded a product/workflow direction for the paper workbench: selected-paper summary actions belong in the main workspace, while diagnostics stay separated.
- Noted a FastAPI import crash caused by a missing
generate_summary_for_paperexport and recommended restoring a compatibility wrapper rather than changing the endpoint.
Achievements
- Confirmed safety/idempotency behavior is working as intended.
- Isolated the highest-priority backend issue to missing
run_record.[[json]]persistence. - Clarified that corpus duplication and artifact hygiene need canonicalization to prevent ambiguous summary inputs.
- Identified a compatibility fix path for the FastAPI import regression.
Pending Tasks
- Implement
run_record.[[json]]persistence for summary runs. - Rebuild or canonicalize corpus artifacts to eliminate duplicate chunk sets.
- Run API validation from a clean terminal and confirm backend startup/import stability.
- Verify frontend summary actions and browser status display after backend fixes.
- Apply the compatibility wrapper for
generate_summary_for_paperif still missing.
