Description
Session Goal
Review the paper-corpus / paper-kb workbench state, diagnose reliability issues in summary generation and identity handling, and consolidate a migration plan toward stable canonical paper identifiers and cleaner frontend summary flow.
Key Activities
- Triaged frontend/backend reliability issues in the paper corpus app: summary 404s were being treated as errors, row-level polling was noisy, and title-derived IDs were identified as brittle.
- Defined a staged remediation path covering UI semantics, request fanout reduction, React state stability, and a backend identity contract based on short stable
paper_uidvalues. - Planned a canonical ID migration with dual-field metadata, alias resolution, canonical summary artifacts, and backward-compatible routing.
- Clarified that chunk IDs should not be migrated yet; the focus remains on paper identity and summary-state behavior.
- Diagnosed backend summary generation behavior:
GET /summaryreturning 404 is expected when missing, whilePOST /summary:generatereturning 500 is the real blocker to fix and verify with regression tests. - Reviewed corpus artifact routing and chunk-set availability, including the likely cause of zero chunk-set counts when the active corpus path does not see
*.chunk_set.[[json]]files. - Outlined a repair workflow for active chunk-set generation and corpus path alignment.
- Evaluated Agent Framework integration for controlled paper summarization, including provider compatibility fixes, JSON enforcement via prompts, smoke tests, idempotent persistence, and a staged rollout from mock to real summaries.
- Recorded the sprint outcome: repo boundaries and corpus layout are clearer, GROBID-to-chunk_set processing is stabilized, real Agent Framework summary generation is working, and the next bottleneck is summary quality.
Achievements
- Established a coherent migration strategy from title-derived paper IDs to canonical short
paper_uididentifiers. - Separated expected missing-summary 404 behavior from actual backend failures.
- Identified the main remaining backend blocker as the 500 error on summary generation.
- Confirmed progress toward real LLM-backed summary generation with artifact writing and provider call tracking.
- Reframed the next sprint around improving summary usefulness and quality rather than infrastructure plumbing.
