Session Goal
Modernize the thesis analysis workflow around the new OLS pipeline by updating build targets, aligning notebook structure with the new analysis plan, and clarifying how backend artifacts should be ingested.
Key Activities
- Reviewed a Makefile refactor plan to migrate from legacy
linear_*/run-linear-*targets to a new family ofols_*/thesis-ols-*targets. - Updated the thesis support entrypoint so
thesis-supportnow routes throughthesis-olsinstead of the deprecated linear flow. - Defined a notebook decomposition strategy for the OLS exploration: split the monolithic notebook into thematic notebooks, each centered on a single analytical question.
- Outlined the notebook ingestion pattern to inspect first cells across multiple notebooks and infer paths, run discovery, expected artifacts, and derived tables.
- Captured a backend artifact factsheet describing the canonical directory layout, artifact naming, and loader workflow for MAL pipeline outputs, including the migration from legacy linear FE runs to the OLS suite.
Achievements
- The build-system migration path is clear: legacy linear targets are being removed in favor of OLS-specific targets.
- The thesis workflow now has a cleaner entrypoint and a more explicit target structure for OLS runs.
- The notebook architecture was clarified into a modular family of files, separating core thesis notebooks from robustness/support notebooks.
- The expected backend artifacts and loader conventions were documented, reducing ambiguity for future notebook ingestion and diagnostics.
Pending Tasks
- Implement or verify the actual Makefile edits across all target groups.
- Create or reorganize the notebook family according to the proposed thematic split.
- Confirm the ingestion logic by inspecting notebook headers and validating artifact paths against real backend outputs.
- Remove any remaining references to deprecated linear targets once OLS migration is fully validated.
