Description

Session Goal

Diagnose why the EPH training-matrix generation pipeline was failing for 2010 microdata and define the smallest safe fix to make preprocess.py runnable without changing the statistical logic.

Key Activities

  • Audited the training-matrix generation path and identified build_training_matrix() as the likely entry point.
  • Traced the first blocker to import resolution: preprocess.py was assuming a root-level module path in PYTHONPATH even though it lives inside the encuestador package.
  • Reviewed file-discovery assumptions and found the globbing logic was too narrow for EPH 2010 inputs, expecting patterns like *2010.txt instead of the actual household/individual microdata names.
  • Compared the generated training matrix against downstream model expectations and noted that AGLO_rk / Reg_rk are not preserved in the training output even though later stages require them as features.
  • Chose a least-invasive remediation strategy: fix import handling and adjust file discovery under data_root/hogar rather than rewriting the statistical pipeline.

Achievements

  • Clarified that the initial failure is an import/package-layout issue, not a data-quality issue.
  • Narrowed the data-side risk to filename pattern mismatch for 2010 microdata.
  • Established a concrete execution path: validate minimal file detection, patch globbing to accept the 2010 naming scheme, and run a minimal runner to produce EPHARG_train_10.[[csv]].
  • Identified a follow-up compatibility concern around missing ranking columns for later model stages.

Pending Tasks

  • Apply the relative-import fix in preprocess.py or define a safe PYTHONPATH workaround for execution.
  • Update file discovery so the pipeline finds 2010 household/individual files under data_root/hogar.
  • Run a minimal end-to-end check to confirm training-matrix generation works for 2010.
  • Verify whether AGLO_rk and Reg_rk must be added back into the training output for downstream compatibility.
