Description

Session Goal

Consolidate backend accounting changes into a safer execution plan, while also clarifying Git recovery/merge workflows for Codex branches and notebook preservation.

Key Activities

  • Reviewed a safe rerun sequence after backend changes: pull latest changes, validate, rebuild live artifacts, confirm latest symlinks, then rerun notebooks.
  • Documented a fallback path for reusing an existing run stamp and noted a suspected Makefile bug affecting latest symlink updates.
  • Captured Git conflict recovery guidance: abort an in-progress merge, hard reset a local branch to the remote Codex branch, optionally preserve secrets while ignoring untracked test artifacts, and merge main into Codex while favoring notebook versions from the branch.
  • Analyzed a likely PR/remote-state conflict where the issue may be on GitHub rather than in the local working tree, with operational exits including deleting the remote branch or force-aligning it to main.
  • Defined a two-phase backend semantic accounting PR strategy: first introduce backend-owned semantic classification and monthly flow splitting; then build a clean monthly operating statement from those semantic flows.
  • Established a prioritized backlog for the canonical monthly accounting layer and metric frontier, emphasizing classification, operating statement, cash close, debt wrappers, and a metric contract boundary.

Achievements

  • Clarified the correct execution order for reruns after backend changes, reducing the risk of stale artifacts and broken notebook refreshes.
  • Established a repeatable Git recovery pattern for branch sync, merge conflict resolution, and notebook conflict handling.
  • Narrowed the accounting implementation approach to an additive, conservative rollout that preserves legacy outputs while introducing a canonical semantic layer.
  • Identified the main sequencing principle: build the backend-owned monthly semantic layer before exposing metrics to notebooks, reports, or frontend consumers.

Pending Tasks

  • Verify and fix the suspected Makefile issue that prevents latest symlink updates.
  • Decide whether the remote Codex branch should be deleted, force-synced to main, or merged forward.
  • Implement the first PR for backend semantic classification and monthly flow split.
  • Follow with the monthly operating statement PR and later metric contract/frontier exposure.
  • Revisit the visible assets planning item, which appears unresolved in the session log.
